Reducing Our Dependency on Wild Fish
Despite a significant reduction in marine ingredient inclusion over the past decades, BioMar still relies on these ingredients for optimal fish nutrition and health. To address this, we're investing in the upcycling of wild marine by-products to ensure no nutrients go to waste.
Upcycling Wild-Caught Seafood Waste
Commercial fishing and processing often discards fish parts like heads, tails, and skeletons. In partnership with marine “bio-refineries,” we transform these by-products into nutritious aquafeed ingredients, ensuring that valuable nutrients are efficiently reused.
Recovering Waste from Omega-3 Supplements
The omega-3 supplements industry leaves behind by-product oil rich in fatty acids beneficial for fish and shrimp. Previously burned as fuel, in BioMar we upcycle this oil into aquafeeds, reducing waste and reintroducing nutrients into the food chain.
